Child support is not usually dealt with by the Family Court, but it can be in some cases.
For most families where the parents have separated, child support is either agreed by the parents, or is assessed and collected by the Department of Human Services – Child Support Agency.
The amount of child support payable is based initially on the application of a statutory formula, but can be varied depending on the circumstances of the family.
